COUNTRIESWITHATHLETESONTHE
ANTI-DOPINGTESTINGPANEL.
I was very
disappointed to learn that some athletes
were recently missing from their agreed location when
officials called to conduct testing. There have been several such cases in various countries
in recent years and not only is it disappointing but it is
also very expensive to TWIF. We have a contract
with the testing agency and are liable for costs even if the
athlete is not present as scheduled under the “whereabouts”
procedure.
Equally
and perhaps more important is our position in relation to the
IOC and World Games, both of whom regard our compliance with
the World Anti-Doping Agency Code as paramount.Continued failure by some athletes to adhere to their
commitments is likely to jeopardise our international
standing.
The
importance of the above points has been emphasized on several
occasions and as recently as the 2011 TWIF Congress when
International Representativeswere asked to ensure
that their membership was made fully aware of their
responsibilities in this respect. It seems that the message did not always get through to
those concerned !
I would
strongly request that this information is reinforced once
again.
